The 6 best ways to show appreciation to your commercial tenants

With the Holiday season upon us—the feeling of gratitude and joy fills the air. This is especially true when it involves our great tenants.

The ones that take care of our property, and give us the means to pay our bills. However… The one question that comes up is “how can we show appreciation to our tenants during this Holiday season?”.

The great news is that there are multiple ways that we can do this, and in this article, I will go over the 6 best ways that we can show appreciation.

1. Making The First Impression Count & Establishing A Solid Relationship

Landlords get a bad rep and it shouldn’t be that way. Make a great impression from the start with your tenants. There is a saying “never judge a book by its cover,” but the reality is people do, and sometimes that first impression sticks.

You want to establish a wow factor from day one. Let them know that you are professional, reliable, and trustworthy. This will truly give them appreciation towards you.

2. Be Readily Available

Don’t you hate when you try to call a service provider or someone and you get a voicemail, and even worse—you wait for them. Only to find out that they will never get back. It’s a terrible experience.

The same holds true for your tenants. Make sure that you are always ready to help them with anything they are concerned about. Also, if you can’t get to them at that exact time, have a system that will remind you to get back to them.

Not only will your tenants appreciate this, but they will think about it twice before leaving.

3. Respect Your Tenant’s Privacy

It’s extremely important to respect your tenant's privacy. Remember they are professionals, and they are renting that space to conduct their business.

Don’t be the guy that pops in all the time to see what is going on. You might end up disturbing them from the work that they are trying to get done. It can even get worse, and they might get annoyed and want to leave.

A tenant respects a landlord who respects them, and trust me… If they need something from you, they will let you know.

4. Be Hasty To Fix Things

This has to be one of the number one priority for you as a landlord. When your tenant says “jump” you have to say “how high”. If something goes wrong at the space that they are renting for you, you have to do everything in your power to fix it ASAP!

Remember they are paying you money for this space, and anything that happens can prevent them from functioning, especially if they are a business.

By being a fast-responding landlord you will not only keep them happy but appreciative.

5. Always Keep Your Promise

If you promise something to your tenants make sure that you follow through. Being an unreliable landlord can really put a bad taste in your tenant's mouth.

If you promised them a new door, a cleaning, or a new coat of paint in their space, make sure to do so.

6. Be Thoughtful

Sometimes to show appreciation you have to go above and beyond. This doesn’t necessarily mean you have to spend a ton of money or do something crazy.

You can simply write a letter of gratitude or appreciation. You can even simply just call your tenants, see how they are doing, and ask if they need anything.

Just from them seeing your acts they will appreciate having a landlord that pays attention to them and this will solidify your relationship going into the future.
